 What is the pineal gland?

It is also known as pineal body or epiphysis cereberi, is a tiny gland in your brain that is located beneath the back part of the corpus collasum and it is the endocrine organ responsible for secretion of melatonin hormone.


When it gets dark out , the pineal gland  releases melatonin which plays a role  in regulating your sleep patterns through what is called circadian rhythm and makes you start to feel sleepy . 

 

At night, the influx of melatonin can help you     feel tired if the underlying condition or injury impairs the pineal gland it can lead to a hormonal imbalance  that can  impact several systems in your body.  

For example, an impaired pineal gland can disrupt your sleep patterns it also plays a vital role in CVS that upon long term leads to more serious  health problems.
