: What is the best treatment for arrhythmia?

Heart arrhythmia treatments include:

Antiarrhythmic drugs that convert the arrhythmia to sinus rhythm (normal rhythm) or prevent an arrhythmia.

  • Medicines that control your heart rate. .
  • Anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy drugs
  • such as warfarin or aspirin) that reduce the risk of blood clots forming.

Arrhythmia: Symptoms & Treatment

Symptoms :

  • Heart palpitations
  • Fainting
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Chest discomfort

What are the treatment goals for arrhythmia?

Treatment goals

Prevent blood clots from forming to reduce stroke risk, . especially for people with atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Control your heart rate within a relatively normal range. Restore a normal heart rhythm, if possible. .  If arrhythmia is secondary to other condition, that means there is commorbidity, so treat firstly the primary reason that is the leader cause and then arrhythmia will be treated.

: Arrythmias is an abnormal heart rhythm that is characterized by irregular heart beats either too fast as in atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter or too slow.  Arrythmias  could be symptomatic or asymptomatic and it ranges from mild to severe. The prognosis varies greatly depending on the type and severity of the condition .

Types of Arrythmias

Supraventricular Arrythmia.

Ventricular Arrhythmia .

Bradyarrythmias and junctional  rhythms  because of issues in the cardiovascular conduction  system . For example, sinoatrial node, atrio-ventricular node, bundle of his and purkinje fibers.[ ] Dr Hiba: Flecainide,Sotalol, and amidarone are considered to be the drug of choice for treatment of Arrythmias.

They are commonly prescribed because they have the ability to terminate an arrythmia and are usually given to prevent the abnormal rhythm  from occurring pr reduce its frequence or duration .

Ventricular fibrillation is pharmacologically treated  by the first line drug ; Epinephrine and repeated every 3-5minutes.

If the first line treatment is failed; consider the second line treatment , *amidarone* 300 mg.

Defibrillation and medication are given in an alternating  fashion between cycles of  2 minutes of high quality CPR.

Cardioversion  is the immediate treatment or first    line therapy  for patients with unstable tachycardia.

In the management of arrythmia, beta blockers are commonly used to slow heart rate in patients with atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.

These medications don't return the heart to the normal sinus rhythm but control the ventricular heartbeat and hence reduce the symptoms associated with Arrythmias.

Adenosine is the intravenous drug used for treatment of stable narrow-complex supraventricular tachycardia

SVT .

Atropine is the first line treatment for instable bradycardia .
